Carmina Burana Art Contest

reate a work of art in response to Carl Orff's Carmina Burana.  The work's full
title is "Carmina Burana: Secular Songs for Singers and Choruses to be Sung Together with Instruments and Magic Images."  Listen to a recording, and in response to what you hear create your own "magic image" that captures the essence of the music.  You may use any medium you like (i.e. oil paints, watercolors, pastels, embroidery, sculpture, collage, papier-mâché, charcoal, etc.).  Entries will be judged on overall artistry, creativity, and the degree to which they capture the essence of the music.

There are many excellent recordings of Carmina Burana available; check your local library and ask your teachers.  Be sure to listen to the entire work, not just "O Fortuna," which is the most famous part of Carmina Burana, used in countless movies, TV shows etc.  Your artwork should represent the piece as a whole.

The best submissions will be displayed in the Colden Center lobby on the evening of the concert (December 19, 2009).  All students who submit a work will receive one ticket to the performance.
